Different machines to meet all needs
I was wondering if there ever was a vertical milling attachment for a horizontal mill? It would seem that it would be a somewhat useful attachment. It could slide on the over arm ways and either be powered by the horizontal spindle or be self contained with its own motor. My horizontal mill is not accurate enough I think as pertains to the table movement to be of much real use.

It can be tilted left or right, and left tilted to use the horizontal spindle for short stub cutter jobs that dont need the overarm. I'm interested in mounting a vertical head on whichever Hardinge UM Horizontal Mill I end up buying. Hardinge made a vertical head accessory for the TM and UM mills, but they're somewhat hard to come by and they lack a quill, much less a power quill. I'm almost inclined to plane a small portion of the column so I can have a more rigid mounting for the vertical head, but this risks destroying the machine and would be a pile of work.
